free to roam FTR is a voluntary association that was formed shortly after the population of mustangs in Hunter Creek became increasingly noticeable. The association is primarily run by horse advocates and environmentalists, partnered by the Wildlife and Conservation Team of Hunter Creek, and is also accompanied by volunteers from local ranches and equine veterinaries. The association accepts all donations, which go towards keeping the population of wild horses stable, as well as funding veterinary supplies, and temporary containment expenses.
The FTR association seeks to practice humane methods of population management. They do everything in their power to avoid euthanasia, and contraceptive methods that are practiced on Nevada's feral horse population. During FTR roundups, which are held once in the spring and once in the summer, horses are temporarily contained in holding facilities until an on-site veterinarian can check the horse's health and overall conditions.
volunteering FTR is entirely volunteer-based and non-profit. The association always welcomes new volunteers, from licensed equine veterinarians and experienced horse drivers, to horse protection advocates and concerned environmentalists. The group has a facility just outside of town where potential volunteers may apply to participate in FTR efforts to defend and preserve the mustang population. Help Hunter Creek remain a safe haven for wild horses!
