The day was hot and Kage could feel his fur glistening with sweat. He didnt much care for heat but the look of the sweat on his fur made him shine an even darker ebony black. There was only a slight breeze today not much to help with the heat though. Although it was hot and not a good day for exploring Kage couldnt help but get curious.
Earlier that morning Kage was lurking through the woods trying to stay cool in its everlasting shade. While he was wandering around he happened to catch a glimpse of a white fence out of the corner of his eye. He wasnt too fond of this new structure but he could see horses enclosed in them and thats when he got he most curious. He decided early that morning he was gonna make a trip down to these strange structures and talk to one of the horses and see what was going on. What are the chances this could mean danger to him after all those horses were alright.
He made the long journey and finally at close to 2 in the afternoon which is around the hottest time of day he made it to the white structures. Across the way he could see a horse at a water trough clearly in another part of another fence. Kage called out to this horse in hopes for an answer in the mean time he danced back in fourth across the fence as if to catch its attention or any of the other horses in the other fences. He wasnt sure but the fence he was by seemed empty but there was part of it shaded off he couldnt see. He hoped if anything a horse would notice him.
His eyes searched frantically for another to talk to but the only one he could see was he one across the way but still he didnt get an answer. What was wrong with these horses was all he could think. They are enclosed and dont even care. This was all new to him as he was never around humans before or any civilization. His mom used to be a dressage horse but she sheltered him from that life since she had ran away from her owner after being abused only to find she had a baby in her stomach and she promised to never let him go through the same thing. She fulfilled this promise for her whole life but had passed away the year before which left Kage on his own and uneducated of this sheltered world he was walking into.
He called one last time in hopes of an answer and stayed dancing on the fence. " Anyone", he thought ,"just one horse notice me."

Hey I hope you don't mind if I reply with Whizz. I kinda wanna make him a full time character but I'm not sure yet. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Whizz nibbled boredly in the pasture he shared with another stallion, Warren. Unfortunately for the horse, his friend wasn't there to keep him company today. In fact his friend hadn't been there for the last couple of days. It was irritating as well as lonely. His ears twitched at different sounds. He was hoping Tilly would decide to join him outside today. It was a glorious day for a ride. He stood in the shade of a cluster of trees. Even though it was a cool day, the sun still was hot. One of the nearby mares called out to him, Whizz ignored her. He was in no mood for her silly antics today. Flicking his tail with annoyance, the stallion heard a sharp whinny from the other side of the pasture. His head shot up and he glanced around. Where was that coming from? Curiousity getting the best of him, Whizz left the shaded shelter and headed into the middle of the field. That's when he spotted the colt. Standing on the other side of the fence was another horse. An intruder on Whizz's and Warren's territory. This was not good. Enraged, he galloped to the fence. The sunlight caught his dappled coat and made it sparkle like diamonds. His tail and mane whipped out behind him as he closed the space between them. When he reached the fence, he reared up menacingly. "What brings you here Wild One?" he snorted.

Just when Kage was thinking there was no hope on another horse replying he caught sight of a gray dappled horse. His ears instantly shot up in excitement but then he could feel the rage steaming from the horse as it got closer. He wasnt too fond of males but atleast someone was replying to his call.
Once the horse got into sight the rage transferred to him almost instantly. It was weird how he had no reason to be enraged but just the fact that this was a male and he was enraged made him that way. After the male finally got to him he could see every dapple on this horses body. Strange how a horse can look so small from a distance but bigger upclose. Although this horse seemed about the same size as him it was obvious Kage was the more stalky one but that could never prove anything.
The horse asked him for the reasons he was here and Kage simply replied, "i was wandering and happened to see these strange white things. What are they?? And why are you behind them??" Kage wanted to ask more but knew it would be too overwhelming to ask so much at once. So he only wanted to ask a little at the time for the moment hoping to atleast get some questions answered. Although he was curious he had to admit he was still feeling like he should be on guard like something could happen at any moment.

Whizz let out laughing snort. He shook his head and relaxed his muscles. The colt didn't threaten him or pose as a threat. He was just curious. Stamping his hoof he glanced at the fence. "My rider calls it a 'fence' it keep us in and other things out." Cautiously he moved closer to the fence and sniffed at the young horse. He stunk of wildernes. Whizz smacked his lips together, he didn't care for the smell. "Why are you wandering this close to humans? You are wild right?"
It didn't make sense to Whizz, why any horse would want to be wild. Hunted and chased down by other animals, freezing and starving during the winter. The stallion had it made at Taiswell. Food, shelter, blankets, friends. He couldn't find a single thing to complain about. Well other thenTucker but that was a different story. "I'm Wiser by the way, but you can call me Whizz." He bowed his head in greeting.

Kage cocked his head in confusion the horse had said his 'rider' called it a fence. "What is this rider you speak of??" Kage snorted. Kage felt as if this horse was acting like he was dumb. Always one to jump to conclusions he felt offended slightly. He could tell this horse had an issue with the way he looked and smelled but he didnt understand. The smell of him was just fine with him and seemed to attract the mares just fine.
He looked around gazing at all the fences and horses in them. This horse really was to be stuck in the fence with nothing able to get in. Thats a load of crap is all Kage could think. This fence didnt seem that efficient he jumped over trees bigger than this fence running from a cougar one day. Its a piece of cake so why were these horses just sitting there like they couldnt get out.
This mention of a human really got him confused. What was that. He looked at the horse with a blank stare obviously Kage didnt understand. "what is a human?" he asked and added " my name is Kage." saying it almost as if to hope for an acceptance of his name, as if he needed that.

Whizz threw his mazzive head back with shrill laughter. Did this horse really just ask what a human was? Even wild horses should know what these masters are. "Surely you've seen two-leggers before? They are the rulers of the world. My world and yours. They shelter, feed, and protect us; even though some of us do not need protecting." Whizz puffed up and pawed the ground fiercely. His muscles rippled with the movement.
Upon hearing the colt's name, Whizz nodded with understanding. It was an appropriate name for the horse. "Kage: leader of shadows. Your mother named you well. Just then something clicked. "Kage? Your mother was a dressage horse. Yes I remember her from different shows. We got along well, she always said she wanted a colt to name Kage. Looks like she got her wish." A mare from the pasture next to them whinnied a hello to Whizz. He nodded his head in reply. He had no time for her.
"If your mother was the horse I remember, why are you wild? Shouldn't you be in a barn somewhere?" He racked his brains for ideas as to why the young black stud would be on that side of the fence. It made no sense. Surely she hadn't run away while carrying him? No that would be impossible, wouldn't it?

Kage looked puzzled at the horse, he talked of the humans being two legged. What are these things...? "really I have never seen or heard of a human..." he stated. He was confused at what he heard of these things being rulers and protecting things. He never knew these creatures or things or whatever they were existed. His mind blew up in crazy thoughts he tried to imagine a human. His mind only jumbled together a two legged hooved horse creature. Basically Kage could only seem to imagine a horse standing on two legs but he was wrong by far for humans looked nothing of the sort.
Soon he was tugged out of his thoughts of this human and puzzled once more. This horse new of the meaning of his name and who his mother was...or this is what he claimed. Kage tried to recall this so called dressage but his mom sheltered him so much from this world he just didnt understand. "My mom? Dressage?? What is this stuff your talking about you didnt know my mom. She has never talked of any of this stuff, I think you have to wrong horse." snorted Kage. Trying to look confident but the name thing still had him hung and confused in his mind for his mom did name him Kage and the meaning was 'the leader of shadows' . The thing was how could this horse know this?....All these things whirled around in Kage's head he couldnt even think straight.
His head raced and raced with thoughts he almost wanted to just burst out in a full blast gallop. Running away from his thoughts might soothe the pain on his brain. Deep down though he knew that wouldnt work, he knew that as soon as he stopped his thoughts would only catch up to hurt his head again and he couldnt run forever. If only he could figure everything out, he just wanted things to make sense.

"Believe what you want, Wild One. Frankly it does not matter one bit to me." Whizz glanced over his shoulder. The back barn doors were being opened. A girl stepped out that Whizz didn't recognize. He turned back to the colt. "All of this is in your blood whether you like it or not. It isn't a bad life. Shelter, food, protection, blankets. You'll never have to fight for food or anything else." He heard a familiar clip clop of hooves coming from the barn, Whizz turned. A school pony was being lead out by Tilly. She was helping the girl with her lesson. Whizz let out a shrill whinny to his rider.
Tilly, smiling, look over to her stallion. Her smile quickly faded when she saw him by the fence. He wasn't alone. "Here take her," she told the girl. Tilly stepped out to the pasture gate. Who's horse is that? She didn't think that Taiswell had any Fresians. She ran back into the barn.
Whizz half expected Tilly to come out here, but instead she went back inside. Disappointed, he let his tail droop. "Those, Wild One, are riders. Humans. Two-leggers. They are this world's rulers. Would you like to meet one? Tilly is my rider."
Stepping back into the sunlight, Tilly shielded her eyes from the beaming rays. Yup, Whizz was still with that horse. She set down the bucket of grain and opened the gate. After the gate was closed again she made her way across the field. Cautiously, Tilly got closer to the pair. This was a wild horse. She could tell from the dirt covering his body, and his untrimmed hooves. She clicked her tongue. "Whizz, come here boy."

Kage startled as he saw the girl come out with the little horse. His head instantly shot high and nostrils flaired as he tried to catch the scent of the human. This was nothing like he had pictured in his mind. From a distance he could see that it was hairless except one patch on the top of its head. The strangest part of all was that it was covered in some material that he had never seen before.
He listened as Whizz told him of his "rider" and was confused. This horse talked of how great life would be if he was in there instead of in the wild. Confused Kage just stared almost dumbfounded. He reviewed everything Whizz said in his mind almost as if he was actually debating on joining him. His thoughts whirled as he weighed things out. Finding himself leaning more and more towards where Whizz was at, for some reason Kage felt something pulling at him like he belonged there but at the same time he felt as if he only belonged in the wild.
When Whizz asked Kage if he wanted to meet the human he hesitated unsure but reluctantly answered, " sure..." only to pause in a moment of scared reflection. Deep down his heart raced as the human got closer. Sweat trickled down the side of his neck and on his chest as he tried to hide his fear. His fear got worse as she called out to Whizz, Kage was in a frozen state of fear now. Inside he wanted to ditch the idea of meeting this human but for some reason his legs kept him there stuck in his own cloud of fear unable to escape.

Flicking his tail, Whizz gave Kage a wink before trotting off to Tilly. He neighed back at the colt. "She's kind, nothing to fear." He turned his attention back to her. She had a feed bucket, with feed! His ears swiveled and he whinnied at her. Whizz attempted to get to the bucket but she swatted at him. "This isn't for you Whizz." Her eyes were glued to the horse on the other side of the fence. Huffing in defeat, Whizz walked behind her. "The feed is for you, Wild One," his voice was filled with irritation.
Tilly moved slowly closer. She was cautious and didn't make any sudden movements. Setting the bucket down near the fence, she scooted it just to the other side. After it was in place, she backed up slowly to her stallion. "Well, well Wiser. It seems you have a new friend. Your a good boy." She patted him and gave him a treat. She wondered how the colt got here. Sure occasionally they had a stray wander. But never this close to the property. It baffled her.
Whizz gladly accepted the treat and gobbled it up in seconds. he smacked his lips for another but no more were given. He shook his head and sniffed at her pockets, pushing her softly. "Whizz, I don't have anymore." He snorted and flicked his tail with annoyance. She laughed and hugged him, but never took her eyes off the black horse.

Kage was confused he had never seen a creature so weird in his life. Only once had he seen a strange creature, well the strangest to him was an opposum. An ugly little creature it was but it was weird had a hairless tail, ugly little eyes, and scruffed up nasty fur. He can remember it very well and he remembered the terrible hissing sound it made when he had gotten too close. Most strange animals did something to scare him but this human just put a giant colorful thing in front of his face. Whizz said it was feed for him but he didnt understand he had never heard of this "feed" before.
After the human walked away back to Whizz, Kage's tenseness went down some as he took a step foward to the bucket. He sniffed at it and was startled to find that it smelled wonderful. Couldn't quite put a grasp on the smell but it smelled great. Attempting to trust the horse he had only just met he edged his mouth a little at a time to the bucket. His lip almost playing with the edge of the bucket finally he went in for a bite only to yank his head out quickly and backing up to chew. He didnt wanna be caught in a vulnerable state around these creatures that he barely knew.
His mouth filled with an explosion of sweet fulfilling taste. He loved every bit of it the crunch, the taste, the smell, everything about this "feed" made him ecstatic., He quickly reached back for more still snatching his head back and chewing making sure to be safe of the situation. Constantly searching every time for some enemy to be coming at him. Around his third bite a squirrel fell out of a tree but this was enough for the stallion to go off. Kage's head quickly snatched out of the bucket all his muscled rippled as he backed up in a fast pace and spun around on his hind legs to see what was there and ready to bolt. He saw the squirrel running off and quickly relaxed. He felt foolish to be so jumpy he usually knew every sound in the wild but being this close to humans made him scared.
He let out a warning snort as if to act like something was really there and then relaxed some more and walked slowly back to the feed. Still cautious on whether they would soon do something to him. Kage looked at Whizz slightly ashamed at his panic and then said nicely ," the feed is good and your human seems nice. ". Then acting like he had never spooked he went back to the feed greetily taking a giant bite this time but snatching his head up less violently.

A smile broke out across Tilly's face as the big animal started to eat. He wasn't completely relaxed but it was better then nothing. Maybe there was hope for him. Maybe she could tame him. The idea almost faded when he shied away. Then it jolted back as he calmed down even more. It excited Tilly. A wild horse at Taiswell. A horse she might tame. He was gorgeous. Tilly was sure he was pure Fresian. As he went back to eating, she decided to make it a routine. Place a bucket of feed out every day for him. Maybe even at the same time as Whizz.
Whizz let out a snorting laugh when Kage was spooked by the squirrel. "Calm down Wild One. The little fuzz ball won't hurt you." He shook his head and walked towards the fence. Half there he stopped and looked back at his rider. Odd. She sat down instead of joining him. He whinnied to her, then huffed when she shook her head. "No Whizz, I'm good here." He pawed the ground, extended his neck and whinnied again. "Come here!" he cried. Laughing, she ignored him. When Kage addressed him, Whizz turned to him. "Yes, yes it is. And yes she is. You could live here you know, there is plenty of room."

Kage watched as the human seemed to give him distance. It made him feel alot better. Whizz told him about living there and Kage stopped eating staring at the horse in a trance of thoughts. He was wondering if he should or not I mean after all he was a loner since his mom died. He didnt know of anything else but this new place excited him inside for some reason. Almost like this is where he was supposed to be.
He finally answered to Whizz ," It does seem nice here. I am just a loner in the wild right now and I dont have a real home. Do you get this feed all the time?" Feeling butterflies flutter in his stomach as he waited to see.

Whizz let out another laugh. "Twice a day I get presented with one of those glorious buckets! Then there are also these things called 'treats.' If you think what you ate was delicious, you'd be over-come with joy when tasting a treat!" Whizz's ears flicked alert when the colt said he was a loner. "Here you would never have to worry about being alone. But you do get time to yourself if you need it. And there is plenty of room to run and move around out here!" The stallion was filled with pride as he described his home. He couldn't fathom living anywhere else. He looked around lovingly.
The girl watched with a hint of amusement. It was almost like they were having a conversation, Tilly mused. She wondered if they really were. Maybe horses had their own language. As Whizz whinnied and neighed, it became increasingly loud. She tilted her head with alarm. "What's wrong big boy? Is everything alright??"

Kage head whirled with more thoughts on this place. He imagined himself running through a field and being fed this lovely food every day, had he died and gone to heaven? He was soon excited and wondered what to do next as he soon found out he had finished the feed he had in front of him.
He hated being a loner, finding other horses was hard for him. Only coming across the occasional stallion and if he came across a mare she already was in herd and he would soon meet the stallion again. He battled before but would be beat down considering he was still young, only three, he couldn't possibly defeat these older stronger stallions.
Kage soon pulled out of this thought and looked over at the girl ears at attention to see what she would do. He was curious as to whether she was a good person or not. It is hard to figure things out especially from a distance and his mom always told him not to trust everyone but for some reason he wanted to trust them regardless of what his mom had told him.
